Large HDPE Underground Irrigation Valve Box

An automatic irrigation system spends most of its life underground, and the valves are the part that eventually has to be got back to. This Large valve box is a bottomless square chamber, sunk into the ground over that pipework, leaving nothing but a flat coloured cover at surface level. Lift the cover and the valves are there, dry, visible and within reach; put it back and the garden looks untouched again.

Body and cover are both moulded in high-density polyethylene. The body is the deeper, heavier part: it flares outwards towards the base into a ribbed skirt that grips the backfill and keeps the chamber from tipping or settling out of line, and its walls are left plain so that openings can be cut exactly where the pipes and cables need to enter. The cover overlaps the rim rather than dropping inside it, and a single stainless steel screw through the face holds it down.

Two cover colours are offered. Green disappears into a lawn or a planted bed, grey into gravel, slate chippings and block paving, so the access point reads as part of the surface rather than an obstacle in it. The raised hexagon pattern moulded across the cover gives grip underfoot when the surface is wet, and the whole cover is weather- and UV-resistant, which matters for a part that never comes indoors.

The Large size is meant for the bigger end of domestic work and for public planting, sports turf and commercial landscaping, where one chamber has to take a pair of electric or manual valves and their fittings rather than a single tap. Installation is a spade job rather than a plumbing one: dig, bed the box on gravel, set the cover level with the finished surface and firm the soil back around the skirt.
