Garden water intake chamber with 3/4 inch steel ball valve

A water intake chamber gives the garden its own water point. The chamber is set into the ground until its rim finishes level with the surface, so nothing stands proud of the lawn, the border or the gravel, and the shut-off valve that feeds the hose lives inside it rather than out in the weather.

Inside the black HDPE body a steel ball valve is held on a bracket above the base. The supply pipe meets a 3/4 inch female inlet in the underside of the chamber, and the valve’s 3/4 inch male outlet takes an ordinary hose quick-connector; the manufacturer recommends a 3/4 inch male-threaded PE elbow for the pipe connection. Openings moulded into the base stop water standing inside the chamber.

The cover is moulded from the same material, is UV resistant, hinges back against the rim and is patterned with a hexagon relief. It closes over the whole chamber, which keeps snails and garden debris away from the fittings and adds a layer of protection for the valve when temperatures drop. A small flap in the middle of the cover opens on its own hinge, so a connected hose can pass out while the cover stays shut.

Four cover colours let the chamber be hidden or deliberately visible: green disappears into grass, brown settles into bark mulch, grey sits quietly among stone and paving, and orange makes the water point easy to find in a hurry.

It suits gardens where the tap is a long walk from the beds, allotments and drip lines that need a shut-off out at the far end, and planting schemes where a standpipe would look wrong. Hose, quick-connector and pipe fittings are supplied separately.
