Automatic Pet Feeder with Timer, 6 Meal Compartments

This automatic feeder takes the guesswork out of the days when nobody can be home at mealtime. Six numbered compartments sit on a rotating tray beneath a moulded cover, and only one of them is open at any moment. You fill the sections with pre-measured dry food, set the timer and the tray turns by itself so the next portion appears when it is due. No scooping, no raid on the whole day’s food, and no pet waiting beside an empty dish.

Setting it is deliberately simple. A small hinged cap in the middle of the lid lifts to reveal the LCD display and its four buttons, and the timer works on an interval rather than on clock times: choose a gap anywhere between one minute and twenty-four hours, and the tray advances one compartment every time that gap elapses. Closing the cap afterwards puts the controls out of reach of a curious nose or paw, and the display flashes eight times when you switch the timer off, so you know the change has registered.

The body is a low, wide moulding in white with a grey food tray, chosen so the whole unit sits close to the floor and stays easy for a cat or a smaller dog to reach into. Power comes from ordinary AA cells housed under a screw-down cover in the base, which means there is no adaptor trailing across the floor and nothing to unplug when you move it. Four rubber feet grip tile, laminate or lino and keep the feeder still while a determined eater pushes at the opening.

The top cover and the tray both lift away from the base, which is what decides whether a feeder stays in use or ends up in a cupboard: refilling and washing take a minute between feeds. It is made for dry food, so kibble, biscuit and dry treats work well in the compartments, while wet and moist food should be kept out of them.

It suits cats, kittens and smaller dogs who do better on several small meals than on one large bowl, pets on a portion-controlled diet, and greedy eaters who empty a full dish in seconds. It earns its keep on long working days, split shifts and early starts, and over a weekend away when a neighbour can call in once rather than at every mealtime.
