Tank Bulkhead 1 inch BSP to 32 mm MDPE with Nut and Seal

This kit gives a water tank a direct connection to 32 mm MDPE pipe. The 1 inch BSP male thread of the pipe fitting itself goes through the tank wall and acts as the bulkhead, so the pipe joins the tank right at the wall. Use it where stored water has to travel on through an MDPE line, or where an MDPE line has to feed into a tank.

The kit has three parts. The straight compression fitting takes the 32 mm MDPE pipe at one end and carries the 1 inch BSP male thread at the other. The 1 inch BSP retaining nut screws onto that thread from inside the tank, and the tank seal sits on the thread against the tank wall, so tightening the nut clamps the wall between the fitting and the nut and closes the joint around the hole. Outside the tank, the pipe is pushed into the compression end and held by tightening the compression nut.

Because the tank wall, the seal and the nut all sit on the fitting’s thread, check the thickness of your tank wall against the threaded length before you drill. The hole has to suit the 1 inch thread, and you need to be able to reach inside the tank to tighten the nut.

There is no valve or tap in the kit, so the connection is always open; if you want to be able to shut off the flow, plan a valve elsewhere on the pipe run. The MDPE pipe and the tank are not included.

The kit is intended for water butts, rainwater tanks and other water storage tanks that feed a 32 mm MDPE line, for example to carry stored rainwater along a garden or out to an allotment plot. It suits gardeners, allotment holders and anyone plumbing their own outdoor water supply in MDPE pipe.
