MDPE Tee with Metal Valve and Copper Compression Adaptor

This kit is made for the point where a new branch has to come off an MDPE water pipe and continue in copper. The MDPE tee is fitted into the existing run, the metal valve screws onto the tee’s threaded branch, and the compression adaptor on the far side of the valve takes the copper tube. With the valve closed, the copper branch is shut off while the MDPE run carries on as before.

Three fittings and a roll of tape make up the kit. The tee has compression nuts for the MDPE pipe at both ends of the run and a male BSP thread on its branch. The valve is metal, with a female thread at each end and a butterfly handle for opening and closing it. The copper compression adaptor has a male BSP thread that screws into the valve and a compression nut for the copper tube, so the copper joint is made without solder. The PTFE tape is supplied for sealing the threaded joints between tee, valve and adaptor.

Choose the kit by its complete size combination rather than by the MDPE size alone. The MDPE size, 20mm or 25mm, and the copper size, 15mm or 22mm, are the pipe sizes at their own connections. The thread between the fittings is a separate size: 1/2 inch BSP in the 20mm MDPE to 15mm copper kit and 3/4 inch BSP in the other three, with tee, valve and adaptor matched to it in every kit.

It suits plumbers and DIY installers adding a copper branch to MDPE pipework who want a shut-off at the start of that branch. MDPE pipe, copper tube and pipe inserts are not included, and the pipe in the photographs is for illustration only. Check whether your MDPE pipe needs inserts and how its joints should be sealed before fitting.
