Enclosed Automatic Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box 80L

Cleaning a litter tray is the one job in a cat household that never waits. This enclosed automatic litter box takes it over. A few minutes after your cat steps out, the drum turns slowly, the sieve drops the clean litter back into the chamber and the clump falls into a sealed drawer underneath. All that is left for you is to slide the drawer out, tie off the bag and push it back in.

The shell is moulded from ABS and polypropylene with a soft matt finish, so a damp cloth is enough for the outside. Inside, the non-stick pad is held by screws and lifts out completely for washing, and the whole drum comes free when it is time for a proper clean. Four tapered legs raise the body off the floor, a grille at the back lets the chamber breathe, and a replaceable deodoriser cartridge sits behind a clip-off panel on the side.

It is built for the cats a standard hooded tray never quite fits. The chamber is a full 80 litres and the round doorway is wide enough for heavy-set, long-bodied and polydactyl cats to walk in, turn around and settle. A slotted step across the entrance catches the litter carried out on their paws, and the honeycomb mat supplied with it picks up whatever the step misses.

Setting it up is a floor job, not a plumbing one. Stand it on a hard, level surface roughly 10 cm clear of the wall, fill the drum between the marked lines, fit a bag in the drawer and plug in the UK three-pin power supply. Pairing with the Tuya Smart app on iOS or Android takes a few seconds, and from there you can start a clean, empty the litter, set a schedule or read back the log of visits and your cat’s weight. The app needs a 2.4 GHz network and will not join a 5 GHz one.

One word on what to put in it. Mineral and bentonite litters clump firmly and sieve cleanly, while tofu litter tends to smear and is best avoided. Kittens under six months or 1.5 kg, and cats that are pregnant or nursing, should be kept on the app’s manual mode with automatic cleaning switched off until they have grown.
