Stainless Steel Pet Water Fountain 2.2L with Filter

Many cats will walk past a still bowl all day and then drink from a dripping tap. This 2.2-litre fountain works with that instinct rather than against it: a quiet pump lifts water up through a filter and out of a curved steel spout, so there is always moving, freshly filtered water on offer. Filled to the top it covers one cat for several days, or a busier household for a shorter stretch, and it sits low and steady on the floor where pets already choose to drink. The reservoir and the lid are food-grade 304 stainless steel, and that is the reason to choose this design over a moulded plastic fountain. Steel does not scuff into the soft, scratched surface that plastic develops around a pet’s tongue and claws, it does not hold on to smells, and owners of cats that are prone to chin acne usually prefer it for exactly that reason. The lid carries a pressed cat-face motif on top and a cross-braced underside, and the parts that meet the water – bowl, lid and filter holder – are dishwasher safe. Only the pump housing and the cable, which are ABS and low-voltage electronics, need to stay dry.

Water is drawn through a multi-layer cartridge of non-woven fabric, activated carbon, medical stone and microporous cotton, so loose hair, grit and the flat taste of standing tap water are dealt with before your pet reaches the bowl. The pump arrives already fitted from the factory and lifts out for cleaning, and a slim brush is supplied for the inside of the gooseneck spout. A window on the side of the body shows how much water is left, so a top-up is something you notice rather than something you remember.

The spout can stay in place for cats that like to drink from a falling stream, or come off for pets that prefer the shallow pool sitting on the lid; both are fed from the same reservoir. Power comes from a low-wattage pump running on a USB mains adapter with a three-pin UK plug, supplied in the box together with replacement filters, the cleaning brush and the instruction manual. It suits cats, kittens and small dogs kept indoors, in a kitchen, hallway or quiet corner of a bedroom, and the compact round footprint tucks against a wall instead of taking over the floor.
