Lava Rock Biological Filter Media for Pond & Aquarium

This volcanic lava rock is a natural biological filter media designed to support a healthy, stable pond or aquarium. Its highly porous structure provides an ideal home for beneficial bacteria, helping to improve water clarity and promote a balanced environment for fish and plants.

The rough, open surface of the lava rock encourages bacteria to colonise quickly, aiding the breakdown of waste that can otherwise contribute to ammonia and nitrate build-up. Used in a filter or as part of a bio-media chamber, it supports long-term, consistent filtration without adding chemicals to the water.

Suitable for use in ponds and aquariums, this media can be placed in canister filters, filter boxes, sumps and other biological filtration systems.
