WHAT IS PELLET?
Pellets are small pellets or briquettes made of pressed and powdered organic materials such as wood, straw, sawdust or plant biomass. Pellets are used as fuel in boilers and furnaces to heat houses or other buildings.
There are three main types of pellets:
Wood pellets – are made from wood or wood chips. Depending on the type of wood, wood pellets can have different properties and uses.
Straw pellets – are made from plant waste such as straw, sugar cane or seed husks. They are popular in countries where agriculture is an important economic sector.
Biomass pellets – are made from various types of biomass, such as coconut fruit, grape seeds or coffee. They can be used for various purposes, such as electricity production or fuel for transportation.
Pellets are an environmentally friendly and economical way to heat buildings because they are made from renewable raw materials and are easy to store and transport.
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY USE THE ASH RESULTING FROM PELLET COMBUSTION?
The ash created after burning pellets can be used in many ways. Here are some ideas for using it effectively:
Fertilizer for plants – Ash from pellets is rich in nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, which makes it an excellent fertilizer for plants. Just mix the ash with the soil or add it to compost.
Defrosting sidewalks and roads – Pellet ash can be used to defrost sidewalks and roads instead of traditional chemicals. Ash is safe for plants and does not harm the environment.
Stain removal – Pellet ash can be used to remove stains from a variety of surfaces such as carpets, furniture and clothes. Just sprinkle ash on the stain, wait a few hours, and then remove excess ash.
Water purification – Ash from pellets can be used to purify water in ponds or aquariums. Just add a small amount of ash to the water and it will absorb the pollutants.
Animal filler – Pellet ash can be used as a filler for animals such as chickens or cows. Ash is readily available and cheap, and helps control odors and moisture.
The quality of pellets can be checked in several ways. When purchasing pellets, make sure they are certified!
Humidity – the best quality pellets are those with humidity below 10%. Humidity can be measured with a special meter or weighing method before and after drying.
Density – high pellet density is a positive quality indicator because it means that the pellet is well pressed. You can measure pellet density by weighing a specific amount of pellets and measuring its volume.
Calorific value – good quality pellets should have high calorific value, i.e. a large amount of energy per unit of mass. This can be checked by measuring caloric content in a specialized laboratory.
Cleanliness – good quality pellets should be free from contamination and other foreign materials. This can be checked visually or by testing the ash content of the pellets.
Size and shape – good quality pellets should have a uniform size and shape, which affects their combustion efficiency. This can be checked by visually assessing the pellets and comparing their size and shape.
